About Rox
The sultry sound of Roxanne’s voice has been heard all over Chicago and Indiana for more than a decade, and now this radio jewel is headed to the Motor City! Roxanne is excited to bring her passion for music and outstanding on-air skills to Citadels 96.3 WDVD. Her girl next door charisma and down to earth appeal makes listening to her show feel like your spending time with a friend. And that’s exactly how she views her listeners. You can always expect the same friendly and approachable person whether she’s in the studio, live on location or just being social.
Growing up in Los Angeles, CA, Roxanne always loved music and spent quite a bit of her time listening to the radio. “I remember coming home from school and running to turn the radio on so I could hang out with my favorite DJ’s and dance to all my favorite songs. I wanted to be a radio personality for as long as I can remember. I used to call in to request songs and try to win every contest. I was a big radio fan as a kid, and still am today.”
Roxanne joined the radio scene while only a senior in high school. She was given her own show on the campus radio station and quickly realized the power of the microphone and found the entertainer within. Her indisputable talent was quickly recognized and Roxanne was encouraged by her teachers to turn her dream into a career. Roxanne’s next stop was the Academy of Radio Broadcasting in Huntington Beach, CA.
Roxanne landed her first radio gig in Palm Springs, CA, at the age of 19, but left a year later to expand her horizons and gain more experience. With a road map in hand and a strong desire to succeed, Roxanne was on air in Washington, Texas and Arizona before finally reaching her dream destination in Chicago. At B96 Roxanne got her shot at the most desired shift in radio, Afternoon Drive. Roxanne then became the first female DJ to ever host Afternoons at B96, a time in her life she will always be proud of. So after leaving B96, she decided to stay in Chicago and in the fall of 2009, began hosting Afternoons on Fresh 105.9. When the decision to relocate her family to Michigan came about, Roxanne quickly found a new home on the dial at Detroit’s #1 station 963 WDVD. In her words, “I’m so happy to have found good radio people to work with and to be a part of a great radio town like Detroit. I’m ready to make new friends and shake things up!”
Since Roxanne was once an undiscovered talent herself, she is truly devoted to supporting undiscovered artists in the music industry with her “Be Seen Be Heard” feature on roxannesteele.com ready to relaunch soon. Roxanne has been writing her own songs and poetry for years, and the “downtown girl” revealed her musical talent in 2004 when she ventured into the club music scene. Her first deep funky house record was called “Sexual Thing” (with Chicago’s very own DJ Mixin’ Marc) and she is currently working on yet another new track for the clubs. A woman of many talents, she also is working on her tell-all book, “Girl Behind the Mic,” with an expected 2011 release.
Roxanne’s devotion to radio and her passion for both music and people have made it possible for her to excel in a truly competitive field. Roxanne shares her genuine charm over the airwaves with her refreshing outlook on relationships, fashion, music, movies and pop culture. She also loves to stay connected with every social media website there is including her own site roxannesteele.com.
As a woman who is many things to many people, Roxanne manages to maintain a unique blend of loyalty combined with a free-spirit. She makes time for herself by shopping, writing, working out and cooking. She nurtures her family by spending time with her two young daughters. She hangs out with friends whenever she can…. And all the while, she keeps sight of the role she plays through her voice on the radio.
“Music and entertaining others is a part of who I am deep inside. I absolutely love what I do!”
